It may be a Secret to some, but happiness is a state of mind. Those that look on the brighter side of things know this innately. Head high, eyes covered by vintage Ray-Bans, Atlanta based-emcee Young Lyxx is Happy to Be Here, and the triumphant sounds on his latest album is a testament to that fact.
“I just stand on my feet, running the town,” he exerts in a laid back tone, almost toying with the initial beat, on the opening track “Happy To Be Here,” before ripping into a the preceding beat like a beast does it’s prey. What starts off as a subtle east coast inspired rap track quickly turns into a synthy tribal romp that feels like a 2032 Timbaland.
Other highlights include the Telepopmusik sampled “Don’t Look Back,” the Heroes x Villians produced banger “How I Does It” and the introspective “Relief.” The latter tack finds Lyxx, a student at Clark Atlanta University, explaining in lush detail the exhausting grind of juggling a dream and an obligation. “I balance college, for my mother and my father, cause I know that would rather see me as a scholar making dollars, but I’m out here as a scholar, I’m out here as a problem, they see my work behind it so they know this ain’t a hobby.”
Good to know, but Happy To Be Here never once sounds like a hobby. It’s more of a clear indicator Young Lyxx was made to do this. And for that we should be ecstatic. Listen and download Happy to Be Here below.
