Cold Hearts & Geto Boys–Download Savvy Society & Taahir’s New Song “Vice”

“I had a woman down for me…
Now I’m realizing that I love her”

-Scarface on Geto Boys’ “My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me”

It’s blasphemous to admit, on the eve of arguably one of the most important hip-hop albums of recent memory Watch The Throne, that I rarely listen to rap. I’m not a music purist. I have everything from Biggie to Sia on my iTunes. But I’m rarely moved by rap these days. But when I hear something good, it transcends genre. That’s the feeling I get when I hear Taahir spit line after line of lyrical brilliance on Savvy Society’s new single “Vice.” And then comes a hook so catchy it’d make Drake blush. I’m all in at this point.

Not to mention the track samples one of my favorite Andre 3000 songs. It’s this same skittering beat that adds to an already robust texture. There’s the obvious Three Stacks influence. Then there’s the hints of Geto Boys, Trip-hop, East-Coast and Chopped & Screwed music.

“Vice” is the first single from Savvy Society’s upcoming project Subway In Harlem 2: Breakfast in Philly. Presented by Art Nouveau, the project is set to be released Sept 1. Until then, make time for this one.
