Ramiro Davaro-Comas’ Presents: The Decline

“When Disney land was being constructed, Walt Disney insisted that the theme park be built with large walls around the park, similar to a prison walls. This was so that visitors of the park would not be able to see the real world around the land of Disney. The real world of course was the low income housing and the families that live on the poverty line next to this enchanted theme park. Walt Disney had an elevated monorail constructed to bring the minimum wage park employees into Disneyland without any of the guests seeing them. While most of America tries to build fantasies to shield us from our own reality, Ramiro Davaro-Comas does not. While most of America has some degree of censorship, as to not offend the light hearted, Ramiro does not.

It’s in this disgusting, miserable, disease ridden truth that he finds beauty. The beauty in a toothless hooker, the beauty of poverty, rats vomiting on themselves, fat politicians feeding on America’s youth and even America’s most lovable mouse coming down from a heroin binge. Ramiro’s artwork is a symbolic image of how today’s youth is confronted with constant global crisis. His use of newspaper clippings meshed into his art depicts a youthful “what we see and how we feel about” image of today’s society. With sarcasm, disgust and truth in every brush stroke, it’s emotion that inspires this artist in a time of great upheaval.”

Ramiro Davaro-Comas will be exhibiting the series “The Decline” at Orchard Windows Gallery at 37 Orchard Street, New York, NY.  The opening reception will be on Wednesday February 29th from 6-9pm, and the full exhibit will run from February 27 until March 4.
