Freaky dreams are made of art like the latest short film by Gsus Lopez. In Ephemeral Nature, the UK based director/photographer tells the tale of a classy and stylish couple who partake in less than classy acts behind closed doors. Set to the soundtrack of “Forever More,” by Shaun J. Wright lead-vocalist for Hercules & Love Affair, the experimental fashion film was inspired by directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Xavier Dolan, Wong Kar Wai, Giorgios Lanthimos, and Sang-soo Im among others.
You can reproduce your past, you can rewrite your present, you can dictate your future… beneath the metronomic hum of the running film reel GaGa brings the moster from the hub of the city to the heart and soul of her own fatally fame-laden tale…
Life is beautiful in the way that it works. One day, I was discussing to a friend of mine about all of my phobias and all the lies I tell myself. The day after, I was confronted with The Strange Thing about the Johnsons which is a short film all about the lies we tell ourselves. Ari Aster (director/screenwriter) tells an intense tale of a well-to-do family that holds a disturbing secret.
Just yesterday I saw a documentary about Lil’ Wayne and his story about how his biggest album to date, The Carter 3 came into existence. Out of all the things that was going on in the documentary, the main thing that stood out and inspired me was Lil’ Wayne’s willingness to always want to record, whether he was on the tour bus or in the middle of his hotel room. It made me think of the passion that real musicians have when it comes to their music and their ambition to do great at what they do regularly.
Set to a fuzzed-out shoegaze background, the video shows Lohan emerging from a pool of water set against an expanse of ocean. She stares into the camera, the apparent symbolism emphasizing her rebirth and victory over those nasty drug and theft problems. Crashing waves and a fade out of Lohan’s face bring it all home. -Kyle Chaka, Hyperallergic
Multi-disciplinary artist Evan Mann has been pushing work through multiple mediums. For the artist allowing the process of each medium to influence the next is the crux of his work. From print, to sculpture, to drawing, photography, videography, and then back to print again; Evan continues to push concepts and watch his work evolve and grow. In his latest short film THE BODY, Evan gives his unique self-referencing process a moving visual. The film is composed of stop-motion animations and kinetic sculptures in an attempt to translate his studio work into the time-based medium of video.
When you feel dark inside your outward appearance follows suit. I’m used to seeing Atlanta based multimedia artist Bosco head to toe in black, it’s her thing. But never have I seen it cast in this light. Director Phil The God captures a soul-stirring Bosco fighting her way to victory. And for the duration of the short film they tug at the heart strings of anybody with a pulse. If this what her debut album Black is going to sound like I’m on board. Watch the collaboration between Bosco and Phil The God below.
After dropping out of IADT’s Fashion Design program, Sean Brown worked aimlessly for the next couple of years exploring different mediums and applying them to his first love–Fashion. Whether juggling wardrobe styling, costume designing and what he considers a brief “attempt” at a Menswear line, Sean was constantly consumed with bettering his craft. I’ve been familiar with his work for a couple years now, so it’s great to see how he’s grown. Today, he’s a photography and more recently a film director going by the moniker bySeanBrown. Take a closer look at his latest film below.
No disrespect to Three Stacks, but ‘Prototype’ is one those songs that needs a smooth voice to really make you feel it. While Dre worked hard to get the panties, Jesse Boykins III can coo for half a second and get a girl’s Social Security, car keys, paycheck on top of the panties. Andre’s version makes me appreciate this cover by Jesse Boykins III a lot more. The New York City based singer/songwriter recently released this short film for his cover shot, directed & edited by @Dr. Woo Art. I could tell you more, but his words are a bit more on point.
I give this one an A+. Seriously, if an ordinary church crew came up to me and tried to sell me a 'Jesus Saves' shirt I would politely decline, but with F.I.A, it's a whole other story. Watch F.I.A.'s short film "Peaches" here.
