McLaughlin’s work combines his subconscious, or spirit, along with more deliberate thought out mark making. Almost in a childlike manner, his “scribbles” and lines are made sometimes on paper and other times on canvas. His drawings are a manifestation of a life long observation of the world around him filtered through my emotions. Most of his work starts with an ivory colored background, using either paper or a painted canvas. He then layers on drawings over a period of time using crayons, graphite pencil, colored pencils, oil  and acrylic paint along with pasted on paper cut outs.
