For one to title their album Planet of The Ape$ might make someone think that you are in for an apocalyptic, cinematic type of journey through sound with GREATeclectic as the director. That’s not entirely untrue. You’re definitely going on a ride, but it’s smoother and more familiar than one might have anticipated. DJ and artist, GREATeclectic serves as more of a Jack Hanna character guiding the listener through a concrete jungle.
SOPA or not, If you’re looking these three you can find them on the Internet. In anticipation of his upcoming musical project Planet of the Ape$, artist, DJ & editor of Art Nouveau, GREATeclectic drops another track this time featuring emcees Corinne Stevie & Jack Preston. Planet of the Ape$ drops January 31, until then tide yourself over with this one.
GREATeclectic, artist, DJ & editor of the infamous Art & Culture magazine Art Nouveau, will unleash his debut album January 31, 2012. He is giving us the first taste with “#1 Fan,” a roaring dance anthem featuring singer Antonio Stapleton & Canadian based rapper KJ. In the past two years, GREATeclectic has opened up for J*DaVeY, Theophilus London, Taz Arnold in addition to planning events in Atlanta & Miami with the likes of VA$HTIE & Dee & Ricky. From these experiences, he has made an album that touches on the sonic stepping stones he’s used year by year to pave his way to the present. When I interviewed the guys from Tendaberry back in the Summer of 2009 something was bugging them. Even with a newly christened black president in office the band lamented the public’s assumed sentiment that rock music is and forever will be a ‘white thing.’ Enter 2011, the world is on the brink, literally. It’s never been more apparent that amalgamation is the name of the game. Music, like all forms of contemporary art, is leaning toward a more collage style. For the most part strict adherence to genre and style is gone. Now is the perfect time for a band like Tendaberry to cross borders and their new EP Hit It! serves not only as a staunch sign of the times but the perfect summer soundtrack for every indie darling.
This has nothing to do with that lackluster Super Moon we witnessed a week ago. Atlanta based producer/emcee/artist Jack Preston has always had an interest in the cosmos. According to him, “we are all connected,” and his latest series of work entitled The Moon Series is his visual reminder.
