As an art editor I receive countless submissions. A majority of them aren’t for Art Nouveau. Sometimes it seems as if artists aren’t reading the site. If you browsed through Art Nouveau for two minutes you’d get a pretty solid gist of the type of work we are looking for. Thank whatever or whomever you pray to that Yis Goodwin aka NoseGo knew who he was submitting to. The Philadelphia based artist recently introduced his artwork to us and we’re glad to share it.
Illustrator Rudy Gutierrez’s work has given me so much inspiration this week. I love how his work has such a cultural feel. The colors, the exaggeration of the figures and the tribal markings really brings out his unique style of illustrating. He also throws in the Basquiat crown every now and then and I love it. For more on Rudy Gutierrez google him or go look at some pics below.
Kevin Bongang is for the Red Stripe hero in you! Originally born in Cameroon, Africa, then raised in Columbia, SC and then Savannah, GA, the Atlanta based illustrator has been pushing his unique style of rendering while pursuing aspirations of teaching art. Take a closer look at some of Kevin’s work below.
I love Illustrated album covers and it seems like this trend has been resurfacing lately check out a couple of covers I really love done by some amazing artists.
Atlanta based painter/graphic designer Paper Frank is doing a damn good job of permeating the Atlanta art scene. Bright, engaging and youthful, I was introduced to Frank’s work by Scarlett Spade of CocainePretti, and since then I’ve enjoyed working with him on events (Super Pop, Tabloid and Art Nouveau’s Three year Anniversary Party) and watching his career flourish. Now an apprentice at Atlanta based tattoo shop City of Ink, the self-taught artist is working on a upcoming solo show. Paper Frank is Art Nouveau Magazine’s Artist of the Week. Take a closer look at his work below. Photos courtesy of Paul Abraham Photography.
Robert Carter is one of the world’s most sought after commercial illustrators working today. How in demand you ask? To name a few of his clients which include American Airlines, Washington Post, LA Times, Juxtapoz should do his reputation justic. If not this interview will suffice. Check out our exclusive interview with Robert below.
Artist/Designer Zach Johnsen is gearing up for his first ever solo exhibition in Australia. On Feb 18, Zach will open Acid Over Easy, a continuation of his explosive 2008 Acid in the Ice Cream show at Backwoods Gallery in Melbourne Australia. I got a chance to preview some of the work and was floored at the mastery Zach commands with a brush, ink and colored pencils.
I don’t like to brag about something that isn’t good. That’s why I’m going to tell you about Jesse Draxler. If you’re familiar with Jesse’s work, good, we’re on the same page. If you’re aren’t, prepare for a ride. The Minnesota based artist/illustrator creates minimal mixed media collages. Always neat, precise and conceptual, these works have a vibrant energy that screams loud even when the piece isn’t. Jesse Is Art Nouveau’s Artist of the Week. Take a closer look at more from from Jesse after the jump.
Rich Pellegrino is an illustrator and artist currently working in Warwick, Rhode Island. I stumbled upon is work on Tumblr of all places. Who knew people posted anything other than nonsense. Rich’s neo pop work finds the artist working mostly on vibrant portraits of icons of the past and present. Rich is Art Nouveau’s Artist of the Week. Take a closer look at more of Rich’s work after the jump.
Jeffrey Pena of Curbs & Stoops sent me this awesome project by some friends of his at RISD. This to me is proof RISD is nurturing some awesome artists.
