I once read that every thing and every one is essentially perfect. We are exactly how we were always meant to be, “perfect” only because our imperfections define us as so. Literally and figuratively, where we stand now is a product of what we have done to bring ourselves here. What is and what will be seen by our eyes and our eyes only exists for our viewing. Why we are attracted to certain things and not others is beyond our control, but falls under the same obvious circumstances.
Paved by the old and trudged upon by the present are the streets that stand for the sake of our heavy footsteps. The new world is what has become of the old; the present, a representation of the evolution, or maybe antithesis, of the past. Either way: what and whomever has at one point walked, breathed, or merely stood upon its grounds still remains… always have and always will.

Justin Blyth has been working in design, motion graphics, print, advertising, art direction and film for the good part of 10 years. It’s no wonder the Los Angeles born, Amsterdam based designer’s style is so strong, even when bouncing from clients as diverse as Nike, Playstation, and Flaunt Magazine, he still manages to maintain his signature aesthetic.
This is ain’t even about the sex. That’s just the first thing you notice. It’s more about fetish and our society’s obsession with knowing everything about everything. Male gaze, female gaze, we all look, even the most prude of us stare. Tom Gallant takes from low-brow source material, vintage pornography and turns those into intricate cutouts. He’s as skilled with precision as a surgeon.
Issue 4 cover artist Greg Gossel is unstoppable. In his latest exhibition at Together Gallery in Portland, OR, the aptly titled Paper, Minneapolis based artist the artist presents 24 new mixed-media works in his now iconic style which includes a bevy of techniques and styles.
A writer lives somewhere within his loud and heavy conscience, attempting to filter out his purified thoughts and leave all others inside to reside. And really, there is no better high than the rare occasion of easily doing so. Still, his need to transfer thought and feeling in a most profound manner and overcome perfectionism is, realistically, his job title. And thus presents the ground of which inspired my preceding subject, British-bred artist Alex Daw.
WisdomTooth likes to build stuff. And judging from this sparse website, which offers no information on the artist or his art, we can just gather that building or creating is all the artist does. Despite these shortcomings the work submitted was clever and visually stimulating enough to post, and what more can I ask for as an editor? Well there’s more, but I digress. The self taught designer from Cape Town, South Africa has work to admire. Take a closer look at more of WisdomTooth’s work below.
Anthony Zinonos is a collage artist and self-professed paper collector originally born in south africa. Now living in norwich, UK, Anthony has a degree in printmaking and photomedia from the Norwich School of art and design and is a member of the Wafa collective. According the artist, “he is addicted to collecting paper and loves coffee and rollershoes.” This is apparent in his collages which are snap shots, never heavy on design elements, but oozing in deep thought. His work is so bare it’s almost minimalism. Take a closer look at Anthony’s work below.
I came across these works by Geoff J. Kim while browsing flickr a while back. His tounge-in-cheek collages are at once witty and keenly designed. Originally from the Bay Area of California, the artist now resides in Amsterdam, NL. Geoff J. Kim is Art Nouveau Magazine’s Artist of the Week. Take a closer look at his work below.
Art Nouveau editor Kendrick Daye aka GreatEclectic is busy finishing up work for his debut solo exhibition Want To See A Sad Boy Smile? Pay Him which opens April 14 at Studio 900. The Atlanta based artist/designer recently posted these latest works on his Tumblr. I don’t know about you…but I can’t help getting excited.
Remember when Bill Murray was Greg Gossel’s muse. Gone is that chum face. The violent and cult followed directors Quentin Tarantino and The Coen Brothers are the artists latest inspiration. At least for this group show they are.
