We told you we had something big planned for Art Nouveau Magazine’s three year anniversary. Feb 24, at the Deefor Centre in Atlanta, Celebrate this Brand of Insanity with us and a few special guests. For the first time, Theophilus London will travel all the way from his home of Brooklyn, NY to bless Atlanta with his signature mix of old school soul and electro hip-hop. The event also features bass infused DJ sets by GreatEclectic, Ethereal & Savvy Society, pop up performances by Tendaberry, RAHBI, BOSCO, A Ware, Corinne Stevie, theDOLLDAZE, Micah Freeman, Vina Mills, Jay Scott & Ben Carson, live art by Paper Frank and Sean Fahie and GAS Up Radio’s Guy Anthony as the host for the night. With all that and free drinks from 9-10 PM courtesy of Tree of Life you’ll want to get there early.

They always say don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Agreed. But there’s nothing wrong with being attracted to a book simply by the visual splendor an issue gives. The inside can be magnificent, but if the cover isn’t right, it isn’t going to print. It was months before I found the image I wanted to use for the first issue, shown above a piece by Ron English. Art Nouveau gave artists the chance to submit ideas for the Winter 2010/2011 issue. Instant iconography and visual madness ensued of course.
Three blocks from the train station and on your left, is precisely what Kendrick told me. It’s my first day as an editorial assistant for Art Nouveau, an art magazine that infuses pop, avant garde, and eclectic to give you a nouveau take on the field. I am to meet with the curator of the magazine Kendrick Daye aka GreatEclectic at the writers mecca: Starbucks Of course, I nervous and of course I am late. As I shuffle along Midtown praying that he gave me the right directions, a bucketful of excuses run through my mind. I might use the usual train was running late one or I might even pull the dramatics and create a fictional car accident along the corner of 7th street that caused me to have to take an alternative and longer route. In the end, I settle on neither and instead focus on how I am going to introduce myself.

Six artists including Thomars, GreatEclectic, Corinne Stevie, Mike Antor, Neža Agnes Momirski and Enteni Karyuk were selected out of a pool of hundreds of submissions. Instant iconography and visual madness ensued of course.
Three must be my lucky number. As I look back on the past three plus years of doing this “Art Nouveau“ thing, I can’t help but feel lucky. This issue we look back at the roller coaster these three years have been.
