This past year of 2010 has been a good year as far as music goes in Atlanta, GA and everywhere else. From the release of my own EP Melodic Monster to a couple of my friends who have taken advantage of their talent and exposed it to the world with the release of their own projects. Below is a list of some of the projects that has caught my attention in the year of 2010 and it is my recommendation to the world. Browse through the list, Google, and enjoy. Maybe it will inspire you to do the same.
6. BFO Strange’ Us – Party Animals

If you ever needed a party soundtrack, this is the album that you should download immediately. This album offers up party anthems such as “They Don’t Play (Leave the Hard Way)” that will have your guests in a frenzy. There are also tracks that offer up down time tunes for your party such as “Remember” that will give you time to make out with the girl you just met. BFO has brought the roof down around places in Atlanta, GA and has given people a reason to party again, A-Town style.
5. Sye Spence – Mad Mad World

Driven with the promise that she will change the world with her voice and talent, Sye Spence offers the world her EP Mad Mad World. Taking notes from singers like Beyonce, Kate Bush and other R&B greats, she has thrown in her edgy side to balance it all out to create her new project. Sye Spence has declared herself the spokesperson for women giving them encouragement and faith that will allow anyone to get through any tough times they may or might have encountered. Songs like “Daddy Never Said” speaks to women who may not have had that father figure there for them and “A Merican Dream” shows the world how strong a woman can be even though the world throws obstacles in her way.
4. Speak Easy – Words Have Power
Words definitely do have power as visual artist Sean Fahie aka Speak Easy proves it in his first musical project. Putting down the paintbrush and picking up the microphone, Speak Easy has shown that he is just as creative with his words as he is with colors. The album brings the listener hope and encouragement in many ways with songs like “freedom,” “BE careful and “The Voice” and also brings hope of a new day with the first track “A Proper Introduction” and “American Writer.” If you admire the old skool emcees like Mos Def, Talib Kweli and the like then you’ll definitely enjoy the words and jazzy sounds that Speak easy has to offer with. He is debuting his new art exhibition Nov. 14 in Atlanta, GA.
3. Telekinetic Walrus and the Pride of Ions

Psychedelic sounds filled with dark drum patterns and even verses by Corinne Stevie is what you’ll get when listening to this project by Ydiz, Jake and Aleah who started their telekinetic journey a few years ago and have made a home for them in Miami, Florida. They are known for their chaotic shoes and face paint that has started a cult, offering the same practice to their fans. 2. Jack Preston – The Language of Anguish

This project, courtesy of Mr. Jack Preston shows his subtle side as he offers listeners a good mix of fluid instrumentals. Taking samples from some old skool crooners, Jack Preston balances his love of hip-hop with some very chill, feel good music that will teach anyone the art of solid communication. He has also just finished a new project called The Sonikah Project with the help of producer Jon Bom. Jack also did the album artwork for it which is just as amazing as his music. You can purchase his new project on iTunes now.
1. Ben Carson – Melodic Monster

Call me narcissistic but I had to name my project first. It is my first project that I let the world listen to allowing people to enter the complex mind of yours truly. It’s a mix of slow, dark melodies and chill vibes that engages the listener in every way. Songs like “Temptation” will lull you into a trance while “Wasted” will bring you down from any high with it’s chill mood. The bonus track “Your Face” featuring Hip-Hop heroine Corinne Stevie and $$$ will provide any music you need to get it on.
