Rich Boys: An Interview With Christian Rich

January 28, 2010 |  by

Christian Rich are twin brothers from Chicago with a talent for meshing electro, hip-hop, pop, and R&B. As budding super producers the duo has a production list that includes Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, and Clipse. No wonder they’re Pharrell’s favorite group. Here’s an exclusive interview with the guys from Christian Rich. Here’s what they had to say about Clipse, Hellz Bellz and why they don’t consider their music rap.

An-Mag.com: How are you guys?

C: Good, sleepy.

R: Chillin’.

An-Mag.com: Describe your music for someone who has never heard it.

C: One word “pop.”

R: And, lots of melodies and strings and synths.

An-Mag.com: How did you guys get started in the industry?

R: We started off producing in Chicago for locals then was blessed to produce for Lil Kim, Clipse, and others so from their we moved to New York and then later Atlanta, which is where we started writing songs for ourselves.

An-Mag.com: You’ve produced for Foxy Brown, Lil’ Kim, The Clipse, GLC and more. Tell me the experience of selling your first beat?

C: I sent tracks to the company I was working with in New York. They said “Kim picked the Indian beat.” We got a check 2 days later after my speech communications class.

An-Mag.com: MTV has endorsed you; Kanye West gives you the stamp of approval. How does it feel to have that much power behind your work?

C: Surreal, but you must stay humble because it takes a lot more work to stay relevant than to get discovered.

R: Yea you have to stay grounded and focus on your overall goal or goals.

An-Mag.com: You’re twin brothers, I know you’ve produced for them, but have you ever thought of doing a rap collaboration with the other famous twin rappers The Clipse?

R: The Clipse aren’t twins but we may do something in the future. We are part of the same camp.

An-Mag.com: You guys perform with a six-piece band and a string quartet. As artists how important is it to create an engaging stage show?

C: There is no other way to do a show. You have to keep the audience engaged at all times and that is a sure way to do it

An-Mag.com: Tell me about the Hell Bellz “Famous Girl” campaign.

R: We collabarated on a limited addition t shirt for our song famous girl and it can be found on karmaloop.com. It’s only girls tees, it’s for the famous girls only.

An-Mag.com: Would you classify what you do as Rap or Hip-Hop?

C: Neither just pop. I believe rapping on any of our songs confused people but just pop.

An-Mag.com: What’s next for you guys?

C: Many things stay tuned to christianrichgoods.com for updates

An-Mag.com: Is there anything else you’d like to mention?

C: Thank you to everybody who allows us to be important in their lives

R: thank God for our family and friends who keep us focused
