Preview: Kehinde Wiley’s “Black Light” Show at Deitch Projects

New York contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley, is set to open a new show at Deitch Projects this Thursday.

The show opening September 3rd, entitled “Black Light,” is an exhibition of 17 photographs most likely taken from the similarly named book from Powerhouse Books.

As seen with his lecture at The Getty in May (followed by his show at Roberts & Tilton), taking these photos of subjects off the street is the first step of his portraiture technique. It appears the intricate patterns, textiles, and backgrounds are then added digitally before the painting process begins. Here are some images from the book below.
