South African by way of Australia, Jonti, a producer/arranger/multi-instrumentalist/vocalist extraordinaire, is Stone’s Throw Records freshest addition to its esteemed roster. Jonti’s ripe first single, “Firework Sparking Moon,” freshly picked from his forthcoming Twirligig, is an on-trending, minds-eye color bending composition, stocked with hypnotic melodics and psychedelic tribal beats.
Although Jonti (formerly of Danimals- yeah, the yogurt conglomerates may or may not have copyrighted his previous moniker), has recorded with the likes of Mark Ronson, Santigold and Sean Lennon, this multi-talented electro-prodigy chose to self-arrange and produce Twirligig on his own. Drawing inspiration from the experimental films of Norman Mclaren, Jonti’s first single and accompanying video provides his audience with an electro-organic beat, seamlessly juxtaposed with his child-like lullaby vocals and indeterminate instrumentals.
Like an LSD trip gone right, “Firework Sparking Moon” leaves listeners both soothed and haunted, spiritually awakened and utterly confused. Concluding at a mere 1:56, Jonti’s premier track leaves listeners hungry for more of his post-shoegaze, New Age of Aquarius, synesthesia-inducing sounds. Stone’s Throw has slated the release of Jonti’s 45rpm Twirligig for this October. Ladies and gentleman– Generation Electronic’s love song.
