Another day, another art show. Artists all over the world are always exhibiting work. But, like anything creative oversaturation is bound to occur. Here is our list our art shows in 2009 that kept us amazed and engaged.
5. “Octupus Tempura” by Brandon Sadler at Studioplex
Brandon Sadler’s “Octopus Tempura” at StudioPlex Lofts featured a collection of new works as well as the unveiling of massive mural on Irwin street in Atlanta.
4. Shepard Fairey’s Retrospective at The Andy Warhol Museum
Say what you want about Fairey, but he is one of the most influential contemporary artists. His retrospective at the Andy Warhol Museum, a fitting setting, was proof!
3. “Extraordinary Machine” by Corinne Stevie Francilus & Kendrick Daye at Wm Turner Gallery
“Extraordinary Machine” won best Art show in Creative Loafing’s Best of 2009 Issue. And the title was well deserved. Need a recap? Click here.
2. “Whirl Trade” by Fahamu Pecou at Get This Gallery
Fahamu Pecou’s return to the Atlanta art scene was needed. “Whirl Trade” was packed, and featured five new massive paintings by Pecou inspired by his recent trip to Africa. If this is the work that’s created from visiting Africa, we all need to get on a plane ASAP.
1. “In The Service of The Hypothetical” by Robert Williams
Robert Williams’ solo show In The Service of the Hypothetical opened Oct 31, at Tony Shafrazi Gallery and wowed the art world. The show featured new paintings, drawings, and for the first time, sculptures.
