The Scene: Battle-lines are drawn across trippy blue-blazes. Dropping bombshells of knowledge ’till your blue in the face, before the abrupt end, Corinne has you at Hello.
The Sound: As haphazardly brooding as it is meticulously crafted, “Battleships” is an extraordinarily complex two-minute song. It’s a celebration of human interaction of the highest order and the lament of it’s inevitable disappointment with heartbreak. If “relationships are similar to a game of battleships” Corinne is armed to the T. Otherworldly ethereal sounds are her guns and kind of bluesy synthesizers are her bullets. The yearning of love lost permeates through the track courtesy of Aussie producer Timeshare. Half the battle is the aural sonic space, the other half is the sentiment, chanting “Battleships, Battleships, Battleships” in an almost shamanistic fashion, you’ll have to force yourself not to recant with Corinne.
The Verdict: Cerebral never sounded so good. Indie and Hip-hop heads have a new queen of sound, the best of the both worlds, without ever relenting to something as simple as genre. “Battleships” will appear on Corinne Stevie’s upcoming EP “Amalgam Nation” due Oct 27.
