Drum Machines & Dirty Things: What To Expect Sonically On Thursday

February 22, 2011 |  by  |  Music

Music is feeling. That’s why it is always the most important part of a party. If the music ain’t hitting, how are you supposed to get your life? We got you covered this Thursday. Our Anniversary party is set to go there musically. We have DJ sets by Ethereal, GreatEclectic and Savvy Society, pop up performances by Tendaberry, RAHBI, theDOLLDAZE, Corinne Stevie, BOSCO and more and Theophilus London’s Atlanta debut. If you’re unfamiliar with any of the music, get familiar before Thursday. It’s bassy, it’s dancey, it’s pop, but it’s so not pop. But, here’s what our 3rd year anniversary party is going to sound like.

Jersey born producer Savvy Society will open the show. If you don’t know the man you know the music. He produced “What’s That Sound?” by Rahbi on Art Nouveau’s 2010 music compilation Noise Porn. Thursday, Savvy will be playing cuts from his upcoming mixtape Tribal Dance and some other goodies of course. Joining Savvy will be songtress Naira and the aforementioned RAHBI who’ll bring his funk to the stage and perform his latest single “Roller Coaster” and a remixed version of “What’s That Sound?” you don’t wanna miss.

After Savvy has officially made love to the crowd with his beats, I’m next with one goal: to make you sweat. Thursday pop collides with indie as I play mashups of hits by Adele, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa and much more. Joining me will be two of my favorite artists on the Indie Music scene in Atlanta: Corinne Stevie and theDOLLDAZE. Me and Corinne go way back, like way back, so it’s natural to work with her. She’ll be performing a revamped version of “Grace Jones,” and new track “She Took My Mind.” theDOLLDAZE will hit the stage for super sexy stripped down version of her latest song “Lust.”

I can’t think of many things harder than the 808′s, bass drums and snares on an Ethereal track. Thursday fall into his sounds as he brings along for the ride BOSCO, A Ware of Mach 5 & Micah Freeman. Micah will undoubtely blah. A Ware. Party.  Picture a silky smooth voice over sullen guitar strokes lulling you into a trance. That isn’t a sample from some vintage song, that’s BOSCO re-imagined over Ethereal’s lush audioscape. The singer/songwriter will perform Ethereal’s ETTHERMIX of her song “It Was You.”

Fresh off their tour supporting Janelle Monae, Tendaberry will hit the stage with their mix of hip-hop, punk, ska and all around debauchery inspired fun. The band will be performing songs off their upcoming EP Hit It. Rapper Iyana will join the band for one song as well.

Brooklyn based emcee Theophilus London will travel to Atlanta to perform for the first time Thursday night. Fresh off a sick performance on David Letterman, Mr. Taxi Man himself, will bring his brand of electro hop and vintage soul tunes in a performance that is sure to have the city talking for years to come.
