This street art piece was speaking to me directly.Its painted on the side of the Hardcore Art Contemporary Space.

Lately I haven’t been on top of my game for the past couple of months.I guess I’ve been stuck in a rut but yesterday I finally decided to get out and hit up the Wynwood Design District and check out some galleries. I think I’m finally ready to put some of my new paintings out there. Here are some pics of street art I came across on my journey through the scorching heat.

Diary of a Mad Black Stevie is an audio diary of everything I’ve been thinking about listening to and experimenting with for the past couple months. This project gives you a look into the mind of a young black woman who has the ability to travel through other dimensions

The world around her is a hologram and the people in it are stuck living in their own false dark realities. Stevie has the power to do and create anything she thinks about. Through her mind travels she realizes she’ll never have all the answers to the her questions about her existence. The album cover is illustrated by Corinne Stevie Francilus. Most of the tracks on the album were produced and recorded by CSF .

I started working on this remix of Bilal’s song “Robots” earlier this year for a contest and then I decided to not enter it because I just wanted to do it for fun without the extra pressure. Working on this track really allowed me to brush up on my mixing and production skills.

I discovered Mati Klarwein’s work 3 years ago while I was surfin’ the interwebs lookin for visual inspiration.I felt like I struck gold when i discovered his beautiful paintings. I decided to finally make a post about him because I’ve been noticing a lot of people posting his images on tumblrs and fbook but i don’t think they have a clue as to who the artist is.

Mati Klarwein is that visionary painter dude period. Klarwein was born April 9, 1932 in Germany and died March 7. 2002 in spain. He spent most of his life painting and traveling the world. He’s the guy who gave us some of the most amazing album covers; Santana’s “Abraxas” (released Sept. 1970) album , Miles Davis Bitches Brew (April 1970) and many more. In an interview on his site this is what he had to say about psychedelics.

 

Although considered a psychedelic artist by some, when asked in an interview “How do you feel about being classified as a psychedelic painter?” his response was:

I think it’s subjective. Anybody can classify me as they wish. In the fifties I was classified as an illustrator, even though my work consisted of paintings. And in the sixties my work was classified as psychedelic. So I took psychedelics to find out what it was all about. I found out I couldn’t paint on them. I’ll tell you about a funny episode. Jean Houston and Robert Masters put together a book called Psychedelic Art in the sixties, and they came to me. They did an interview with me, like we’re doing now, to include me in their book. And they asked me, “What kind of psychedelics do you take when you’re painting?” And I said, “I don’t take anything when I’m painting. When I take psychedelics I get very horny, and I start going out to nightclubs and cruising.” (laughter)

Recently I’ve completely slowed down on collaborating and this is the best thing i could ever do for myself .I have so much more time to focus on my personal evolution. A couple months ago though I sent Miami based digital composer Eden Grey an acapella of one of my tunes and she flipped it and created something new and interesting with the vocals and production.

I’m not gonna lie I’ve used these lyrics for a couple of different songs because they’ve been some of my fave lyrics thus far. The collaborative track is called Creator Eraser. On Vocals Eden Grey and I. Arrangement and production is all Eden Grey. Check it out below.

Illustrator Rudy Gutierrez’s work has given me so much inspiration this week. I love how his work has such a cultural feel. The colors, the exaggeration of the figures and the tribal markings really brings out his unique style of illustrating. He also throws in the Basquiat crown every now and then and I love it. Two years ago GreatEclectic gave me Georgia Anne Muldrow’s album Umsindo” and I was immediately blown away by the music and the album cover. The album cover was painted by a Seattle based-artist by the name of Tokio Aoyama. Today I finally took some time out to discover more of his amazing paintings. I love music and art and I love the way Aoyama infuses both into his work. Tokio Aoyama’s ability to create unique portraits and his use of dramatic vibrate colors makes him one of my favorites for sure!

Esoteric Lore: Visual Storytelling is a growing collective of female artists who are unearthing creative outlets to explore aspects of black womanhood. With the use of photography, mixed media production, acrylic and oil paint, illustration, and print making techniques, we focus on the stories of a historically marginalized and minimized people.

Encouraged to honor and celebrate the whole Self, this touring exhibit offers empowering images that actively respond to the lack of positive, authentic representations of Black women in mainstream media. Because the stories of women of color have traditionally been written as one-dimensional and often falsified, it is important to acknowledge the complexities behind the existence of Black womanhood. Esoteric Lore provides an avenue to collectively counter the revisionist history behind the oppressed experiences that pervade all our realities. Visual art forms are but tools for communication. Serving as unique agents of thought and action, this exhibition aims to encourage dialogue around the holistic understanding of seeing ourselves in one another.

After the recent Little Dragon show in Miami I ran up to lead vocalist Yukumi Nagano to give her some artwork that I created for her and the band. I’ve been a fan of Little Dragon’s music since 2008 and I gotta thank my homie Tino for putting me on to their music. Thanks Allie for getting me the Machine Dreams album. Little Dragon’s music has enhanced my life in so many ways :-) Thank you guys!
