Artist of the Week: George Condo–Kanye’s “Discovery”

July 12, 2010 |  by

Before Kanye West, most Hip-hop album covers were simple photos of the rapper. After Kanye, you have to come with something artistic to get noticed. Compare T.I’s Paper Trail and Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 cover art with their previous album covers. Ever the art connoisseur, Kanye commissioned prolific American artist George Condo to create the artwork for his new album Good Ass Job. In his style of humans with gremlin figures, George paints Kanye’s head with a sword through it. “Power” in a bold typeface hovers in the clouds. Chilling stuff. George Condo is An-Mag.com’s Artist of the Week. Check out some of our favorite pieces by George.
